About Pam
Specialist Consultant Psychotherapist and Mental Health Professional with over 30 years of clinical experience

Pam Virdi is a highly experienced EMDR UK & Europe Accredited Consultant, Integrative Psychotherapist, Lecturer and Clinical Supervisor who now works full time in private practice with adults, couples and young people aged 18 years of age and upwards.
She specialises in the treatment of Eating Disorders, Complex Trauma, Attachment Injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorders. Pam also has extensive experience of working successfully with a broad range of other clinical problems.

Pam has a strong background in mental health having trained in 1981 as a mental health nurse. Following this core training, Pam embarked on various counselling and psychotherapy trainings to further develop her specialist skills. The last 28 years of her NHS career were spent working as a Specialist Psychotherapist and Trainer in the Birmingham Eating Disorder Service.

She has worked in various NHS settings with a wide variety of mental health issues, including the severe and complex end of the spectrum including addictions, psychosis and dissociative disorders.
As a trainer and educator, Pam has over 20 years’ experience of delivering training and education programmes. As a lecturer she has experience of developing, co-ordinating and delivering programmes of study up to Master’s level and and has previously delivered a year-long Eating Disorder Pathway (part of a BSc Mental Health Studies degree) at Birmingham City University. This scheme of study ran successfully for 9 years and made a valuable national contribution in training professionals of all disciplines to work in this highly specialist and challenging area of work.
She has served as a member on the Editorial Board of the European Eating Disorder Review Journal (1998 - 2008) and has set up and chaired national special interest groups for eating disorders both generally and EMDR specific.
Pam also has experience of working with the media to promote a better understanding of eating disorders and has given newspaper, radio and television interviews. She regularly presents at national and international conferences.
Pam has a special interest in the role of trauma in the development and maintenance of eating disorders. She is co- editor for a book called Trauma-Informed Approaches to Eating Disorders which was published in August 2018 by Springer Publishers. Click here to purchase the book.

Pam is registered with British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and is an EMDR UK & Europe Accredited Consultant & Clinical Supervisor. She is CRB checked and is fully insured.
